Basic Usage

How do I turn my cell phone on/off?

To turn your phone on or off, press and hold down the red key (located above the 3) for 3-5 seconds.

How do I make a call?

To make a call:

  • Power your phone on (press the red key located above the 3).
  • Wait for "Network" to appear on the screen.
  • Dial the number (including the area code).
  • Press the green key above the 1.

How do I charge my phone's battery?

To charge the battery, plug the home or car charger cord into the phone, and plug the charger into a power outlet.

You can charge the phone any time while it is turned on or off, or even while you are using it. It takes about 4-5 hours to fully charge the battery.

How do I lock and unlock the keypad?

Lock the keypad:

  • Select Menu, and press * within 3.5 seconds to lock the keypad

Unlock the keypad:

  • Select unlock, and press * within 1.5 seconds. If the security keyguard is activated, enter the security code when requested.

Set automatic keypad lock:

  • Select Menu > Settings > Phone > Keyguard Settings > Automatic Keyguard > On, and set the length of time, after which the keypad locks

Turn torch on/off:

  • Double press the up Navi key to turn torch on
  • Press the up Navi key once to turn torch off

Phonebook/Contacts

How do I transfer my contacts from my old SIM card to my new SIM card?

Copy a contact between the phone memory and the SIM card memory.

  • Menu > Contacts > Copy

How do I store contacts in my phone?

Add a contact

  • Select Menu > Contacts > Add name

How do I control the volume on my phone?

What do "roaming" and "long distance" mean?

"Roaming" refers to your physical location when placing a call. "Long distance" refers to the area code you are calling.

Can I keep my existing cell phone number?

Most people can transfer their existing cell phone number to Mobal Freedom. It depends on where you live and who is your old service provider. This service is called 'Number Porting'.


In order for a number port to be succesful:

  • The number being transferred must be a cell phone number.
  • Do not cancel your number with your old service provider. Your cell number must remain active during the transfer process. Once the number is transferred to Mobal Freedom, it will automatically be disconnected with your old service provider.
  • If the number is in a contract, you may be charged an early termination fee by your old service provider.
  • When you set up your Mobal Freedom account, make sure your billing information (name, address, etc.) matches the information on your old service provider’s account. You may want to have an old billing statement with you when you set up your new account.

For your convenience, when you choose to port your number at time of purchase, we will email you with a form to collect your details required for the port to occur. This process usually takes between 24-36 hours from completion of the form.

Voicemail

How do I set up voicemail?

  • Press and hold the 1 key. Your phone will dial the voicemail number and you will hear voice prompts to guide you through the following steps.
  • Press 1 for English or 2 for Spanish.
  • Press # to confirm your language choice.
  • Enter a passcode and press #. We recommend choosing a 4-6 digit number that is easy to remember.

Select a greeting:

  • Press 1 for our standard greeting with your phone number.
  • Press 2 for our standard greeting with your name.
  • Press 3 to record your own personal greeting.

Once you have selected your greeting, you will be given final reminders, then press 2.

Disconnect.

  • Press * (star) to disconnect.

How do I check my voicemail?

Check your voicemail from your own cell phone (uses minutes from your call plan)

  • Hold down the 1 key
  • Follow the voice prompts

Check your voicemail from another phone (does not use minutes from your plan)

  • Dial your 10 digit cell phone number
  • Press *(star) key when you hear your personal greeting
  • Enter your passcode
  • Follow the voice prompts

Troubleshooting

My phone's display reads "Unregistered SIM."

This message "Unregistered SIM" means your phone is not properly active in the cellular system. Please call Mobal's Customer Support team at 1-212-785-5800 and report the problem so we can correct it for you.

Billing and Payments

When is my billing statement due?

You will be billed for your first months line rental(if applicable) a few days after activating your SIM. You will then be billed on the 10th day of every month for your current months line rental and the previous months calls usage outside of your free allowance.

When I am billed by Mobal what will appear on my Credit Card statement?

Charges from Mobal will always appear on your card with the reference; "Mobal 212 785 5800". This is our company name and the main customer service phone number so you can contact us via phone for any general queries you may have.

Itemized listings for each charge can be found through your account at http://www.mobal.com/myaccount We recommend that you review the calls you have made before you contact us with a billing query. If you do want to query anything on your bill please do so via e-mail to

How do my free minutes work?

At Mobal Freedom if you are on the Freedom 10,20,30 or 40 plan you get a monthly allowance of FREE minutes that we allow you to use for calls, SMS messages, MMS messages or mobile internet. The following example explains how your FREE minutes can be used.

The Mobal Freedom billing system gives you the call credit value in relation to your minutes.

  • Freedom 10 - 100 minutes ($25)
  • Freedom 20 - 250 minutes ($62.50)
  • Freedom 30 - 400 minutes ($100)
  • Freedom 40 - 500 minutes ($125)

As you use your phone to make and receive calls, send and receive SMS messages or browsing on the mobile internet, the cost is deducted from your monthly call credit value.

e.g Freedom 10 Customer

Makes 60 minutes of calls (Cost $15.00)
Sends/Receives 100 SMS messages (Cost $10.00)

Total Cost ($25.00)

These calls and SMS messages would all be included in the FREE 100 minutes the customer has with the Freedom 10 plan.

Am I billed for incoming calls?

Cell phone plans are measured in minutes, and both incoming and outgoing calls use minutes. You are billed only if you answer the call, so if you don't recognize the number of the person calling, don't answer.
